Credit union to offer foster care children savings accounts

Orlando Business Journal , January 2, 2007

The Central Florida Educators Federal Credit Union is partnering with the City of Life Foundation to offer savings accounts to children in foster care in Central Florida and waive the requirement of an adult co-signer.

"This agreement with CFE will help give foster kids an important part of the foundation they need to be successful adults," says Gerry Glynn, president of the City of Life Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation that helps youth ages 16 and older transition into adulthood, in a release.

The partnership provides foster children ages 13 through 18 with bank accounts where they can store and track their money and have access to ATM machines around Central Florida. The children will receive additional security for their accounts. And once they turn 18, they can add full-service checking capabilities.
