Beyond the Hype? The Finance 2.0 Conference Promises to Deliver Social Media in Finance

I never send text messages and still file paper receipts; simply put, the power of technology and, more specifically, social networks to transform my personal financial management as a consumer remains largely untapped.

To be responsible for developing and organizing a conference centered on social media in the financial industry? - my skepticism was palpable.   A few weeks later, after a great deal of article research, phone calls, and impromptu Twitter lessons, the event has taken on a life of its own and I couldn't be more excited about Finance 2.0; it really is the conference financial executives and marketing officers can’t afford to miss.

The event has the most amazing advisory board:
  • William Azaroff of Vancity (http://www.azaroff.com/)
  • Shari Storm of Verity CU (http://www.sharistorm.com/)
  • Trey Reeme of TDECU (http://treyreeme.com/)
  • Morriss Partee of EverythingCU (www.everythingcu.com)
  • Jason Franklin of Resource Generation (www.resourcegeneration.org).

Each of these individuals has put incredible effort into the event and the agenda definitely shows it.  We've assembled an innovative and knowledgeable faculty, with seasoned speakers like the industry's darling, Tim McAlpine (http://www.currencymarketing.ca/blog/) and the elusive but incredible Ed Terpening of Wells Fargo (http://blog.edterpening.com/).

We also present some new faces to this developing movement.  Take Mark Hanna (www.fundmymutualfund.com), who has embraced the Blog's power to revolutionize his new and nearly launched Mutual Fund.

Our biggest bragging point? At this conference, content is king.   Far from "talking heads" or a two-day commercial, we have a rich line up of case studies from cutting-edge practitioners representing the wide spectrum that is the social media movement in the financial industry. Credit Unions, Mutual Funds, Hedge Funds, Retail Banks, Private Banks...this is the place where you'll get to meet them all and take the best of each back to your organization.

When first starting out, William told me these events on social media are either very, very good or complete crash & burns. The key, he said, is to get beyond the hype - to focus on the deeper issues and the real challenges inherent in social media. Ron Shevlin (http://marketingroi.wordpress.com/), one of our speakers, warned against making this event a "Kumbaya" session. We need to invite lively dialogue and question everything. Trey explained that all financial institutions are on the Web, whether managing their brands through social media or not. The real question, he says, is "Are you a spider or a fly?" Join us at Finance 2.0 and find out.
